As more of an upgrade than a truly free offering, 'Disney Infinity' has gone free on the Wii U eShop.
Anybody with at least one figure and base to place that figure on can get in on the game, multiplayer features included. In other words, those who own 'Disney Infinity' on another console (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, etc) can now play it on Wii U.
Those looking for their first dive into Disney's creation platform will still need to make some purchases.
Keep in mind, the only parts of the original 'Disney Infinity' release compatible with 'Disney Infinity 2.0' (due out Sept. 23) are the figurines, the base and play discs. Play sets do not cross over. Even more, figurines and play sets from 'Disney Infinity 2.0' do not cross back into the original release. You'll still need the 'Disney Infinity 2.0' game once that comes out.
So, pretty much just an upgrade for current Wii owners. Or, for the lazy people, now you won't have to use the disc for the Wii U version you already have.
