New version requires redownloading expansion.
'Fallout 4's new expansion got off to a bit of a rough start on PSN. According to reports, corroborated by Digital Foundry, 'Far Harbor', while it's not exactly a technical powerhouse on consoles, experienced a serious drop in framerate on PS4 whenever the pervasive fog effect was onscreen. It's not a great look, and Bethesda happened to agree, which is why they've already done the legwork of fixing the problem.
Here's the hitch, though: Bethesda didn't issue a simple downloadable patch, but instead, but a completely new file on the PSN, containing all the fixes. Which means that the expansion will need to be removed, and completely redownloaded. The lowdown, straight from Bethesda, is this:
1. Confirm Fallout 4 is not running. Highlight Fallout 4 in your PS4 dashboard, press Options, and select Close Application to ensure Fallout 4 is not running minimized.
2. Select Related Items. You’ll find this under the Fallout 4 icon in the PS4 dashboard.
3. Select My Add-Ons.
4. Navigate to the download arrow next to Far Harbor and select it.
5. You should see a notice that Far Harbor has been Added to Downloads.
6. Wait for the downloadable content to finish downloading and installing before starting Fallout 4.
They also mention there's also the slight chance that eve this won't actually install properly, which would suck because the suggestion after that is to completely reinstall 'Fallout 4'. Hopefully, that's kept to a minimum. Either way, no reports yet about how much of an improvement the new file is, but, it pretty much has to be better than the 10fps DF reported, right?
