Automatically throw the towel after the next update.
Because Bungie wasn't doing enough already to make 'Destiny' a happier place once 'The Taken King' launches, today they revealed that a new feature is being implemented that will put a massacre to rest before it gets embarrassing for everyone involved.
Called "The Mercy Rule", an algorithm will be instituted in 'Destiny''s 2.0 update which is made specifically for three goals: "End bad matches as quickly as possible, give players full end-of-match rewards to discourage quitting, and reduce the number of players who are joined into bad games via join in progress." Straight from Bungie, here's the deal:
"When the Mercy Rule hits, Shaxx will call out the end of the match. We immediately disable join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to :10 seconds. After those 10 seconds, the match will end normally. All players will receive their end of match rewards and return to matchmaking."
The new rule will affect all Crucible modes except for Elimination and Trials of Osiris. Bungie also mentions that it's definitely turned on for Rumble free-for-all but less likely to trigger.
The full skinny can be read over here, along with some interesting numbers for the stat-tracking folks among you. The 2.0 update hits all platforms this Tuesday, September 8th.
