What? Did you think that once April was over your movie budget would get some time off to recover?

From a fresh new take on The World's Greatest Detective to a cursed man with a hook for a hand to two adventures with the Man With No Name - May is another stacked month for 4K Ultra HD collectors. Not that I'm complaining that all of these great hits are coming to the format, I'm just asking do they all have to come out all at once? Everyone from Warner Bros to Sony to Kino Orber Studio Classics is throwing some heavy hitters out there into the world this month. Thankfully we get a little breathing room at the start of the month, but things quickly pick up and it becomes reals. Do people still say reals? Or am I just old?

Anyway... let's dig in

High-Def Digest's May 2022 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping Guide

May The Third - 2022 the insanity begins quietly...

Thankfully the first week of the month starts off mostly on the quiet side with Pixar bringing their latest of their best films to 4K (after an unfortunately Disney+ only premier). After that, Sony starts to fix a serious wrong about a lack of Joe Carnahan films on 4K.

If those editions aren't your liking - there's a Target Exclusive and a Walmart Exclusive

May the 10th - things get a little more intense.

So this is where the slate picks up a lot of steam. We're getting another semi-watchable-but-still-missed-the-boat video game movie with solo releases of a particular dinosaur franchise capped off with a box set AND single title editions from the master of suspense. A little old, a little new, there's a lot to dig through

Uncharted - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Uncharted - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook

Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection vol 2 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Also available will be solo releases of:

In the pile of no new but finally getting solo releases - all of the previously released Jurassic Park trilogy films and the first Jurassic World film are getting solo releases outside of the old 25th Anniversary Collection set. We haven't heard anything to suggest there will be anything new regarding video transfers, audio tracks, or bonus features. We imagine something like that would happen when Jurassic World: Dominion is on its way out of theaters. There's also a new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom edition coming, but again that's likely just a repackage to thematically fit the new cover design for the other films.

May 17th... things heat up a lot

This third week of may feels big on fan favorites, cult classics, and one of the greatest westerns ever filmed. Between Paramount and Scream Factory, a lot of my extra spending $$$ burns up this week.

Escape From New York - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Infinite - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Craft Collector’s Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Beverly Hills Cop II - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Hell or High Water - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook

May 24th - the wallet starts to cough and sputter

It'd be one thing if we only had to work with one of the greatest recent comic book movies made in the last decade to deal with, but there are some heavy, heavy hitters running this month with big knockout blows from Scream Factory, Showtime, Arrow, and Magnet all bringing some slick flicks to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. If that wasn't enough you have some more solo Jack Ryan 4Ks breaking out from Paramount's big box set from a couple of years ago.

The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Candyman Collector’s Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Patriot Games - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Sum of All Fears - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Burning Sea - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

May 31st - just when you thought it was over...

This final week of May is pretty much the best of the best of the best all hitting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. You get one of the best gangster movies ever made. You get two of the best westerns ever made. One of the absolute best thrillers ever made. One of the best historical musicals ever made. And you're also getting both entries in one of the best recent horror/comedy franchises all on 4K. May was already an exhausting month but this final frame is going to burn holes in the wallet.

Happy Death Day - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Happy Death Day 2 U - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Untouchables - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

The Untouchables - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook

Double Indemnity - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

A Fistful of Dollars - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

For A Few Dollars More - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

1776: 50th Anniversary Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

And that is everything we've got coming our way domestically for May 2022. This is going to be an exhausting month for sure and we're going to crank through these for reviews as fast as we can. We're also going to try and cover some of the foreign import releases as they come in as well - both Turbine's Candyman Mediabook and Arrow's release of Candyman are on our hit lists. Turbine also now has a new 4K of Pitch Black we hope to cover ASAP. It's always dodgy with the imports because we have to wait for things to ship and clear customs and that can take much longer than desired - but that'll just mean we can focus on this HUGE list of upcoming titles.

To that point - thank you for all of your Pre-orders. They really do go a long way towards keeping our little game going. Thanks again and until next month - happy collecting!
