Apple's streaming app is now available on the Fire TV Stick.
Apple and Amazon have announced the arrival of the Apple TV app on Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) and Fire TV Stick 4K devices in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and India.
The Apple TV app offers access to a user's full library of iTunes movies and TV shows. In addition, the app includes support for Apple TV Channels, enabling customers to subscribe to individual channels like HBO, Starz, SHOWTIME, CBS All Access, Smithsonian Channel, EPIX, Tastemade, Noggin, MTV Hits, and more. All of the channels are then available to watch through the Apple TV app -- offering a convenient, all-in-one hub for various digital platforms without the need to switch between apps. With that said, the Fire TV Stick version of Apple TV does not support in-app purchases, so customers will have to use a mobile device, Mac, or PC to actually buy titles or subscribe to channels.
And beyond the iTunes library and Apple TV Channels, the Apple TV app will also soon be home to the Apple TV+ subscription streaming service when it launches on November 1 for $4.99 per month. Subscribers will then gain access to a growing collection of exclusive movies, shows, and documentaries from an impressive roster of filmmakers, writers, and performers. Launch titles include original series like See starring Jason Momoa, The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell, and Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld.
The current version of the Apple TV app for Fire TV Stick 4K appears to support up to 4K HDR10 streaming for compatible titles. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, however, do not currently seem to be supported. Beyond the Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) and Fire TV Stick 4K, Apple TV app support is also available via Fire TV Basic Edition in over 50 countries, and the app will be expanding soon to Fire TV Cube (1st and 2nd Gen), Fire TV (3rd Gen pendant design), Fire TV Edition smart TVs from Toshiba and Insignia, and the Nebula sound bar.
Outside of Amazon products, the Apple TV app is also currently available through iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices with iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3 or higher. In addition, the app is available on all 2019 Samsung TVs and select 2018 Samsung TVs. Likewise, select Samsung smart TVs can also use AirPlay 2 to wirelessly stream Apple TV content from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their displays. AirPlay 2 support from the Apple TV mobile app is also available for select VIZIO, LG, and Sony smart TVs.
