Universal Bringing 'Fast and Furious' Trilogy to Blu-ray

Posted Jan 28, 2009 at 06:00 AM PST by Peter Bracke

The action of 'The Fast and the Furious' is headed to Blu-ray, with Universal announcing a late-March launch for the 'The Fast and the Furious Trilogy.'

All three films in the series were previously released on HD DVD and remain among the format's biggest-sellers. The complete blockbuster trilogy -- 'The Fast and the Furious,' '2 Fast 2 Furious' and 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' -- will at last make their Blu-ray debut on March 24 as the three-disc 'The Fast and the Furious Trilogy.'

Tech specs will see each feature presented on its own BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.

Extras on all three titles will mirror the previous HD DVD and DVD versions, and include multiple audio commentaries, making-of featurettes, deleted scenes and more.

Exclusive content boasts U-Control extras on each disc in the set, with all three films receiving its own picture-in-picture commentary track (Bonus View) and additional features.

BD-Live extras on each title include My Scenes Sharing and additional text- and graphic-based material.

At press time, Universal has not announced stand-alone releases of the 'Furious' flicks outside of the box set, but we'll keep you posted.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray box set is $99.97.

You'll find the latest specs for 'The Fast and the Furious Trilogy' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under March 24.
