Lionsgate Bumps First Blu-Ray Titles

Posted Apr 12, 2006 at 07:55 AM PDT by Unknown Author
After weeks of rumors, Video Business reports that Lionsgate has officially announced it is delaying its initial wave of Blu-Ray disc releases. The studio had originally planned to debut its first six titles on May 23; the discs will now hit stores on June 27, to coincide with Samsung's launch of the market's first Blu-Ray players on June 25.

The move comes one week after Samsung announced it was forced to postpone its first Blu-Ray players by one month, due to delays in finalizing the format's copy-protection specifications.

The titles in Lionsgate first Blu-Ray batch include 'Saw,' 'Lord of War,' 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day,' 'The Punisher' and Best Pic Oscar winner 'Crash.' A second wave -- including 'The Devil's Rejects,' 'Total Recall' and 'Rambo' -- was previously announced for release on June 13, but has now also been postponed with no new date, though sources indicated the studio will likely release them in mid-July.
