Another Star Wars series is in the works for the upcoming streaming platform.
Disney has announced that it's developing a second Star Wars live-action series for its upcoming streaming service, now officially dubbed Disney+. The series will take place before Rogue One: A Story Wars Story and will feature the return of actor Diego Luna as Cassian Andor.
"Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me," said Luna. "I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."
Though full plot details have not been revealed yet, "the rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire." Luna will star in the series, reprising the role of rebel spy Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. With that said, the series will take place before the events of that film and will focus on the formative years of the Rebellion. An exact release date has not been announced, but production is slated to begin next year.
The Rogue One prequel series is the second live-action Star Wars show set to arrive on Disney+, joining Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian. And in addition to the Star Wars franchise, the streaming service will also reportedly include shows based on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, including potential series starring Falcon, Winter Solider, Scarlet Witch, and Loki. Likewise, a Monsters Inc show and a High School Musical series are also in the works.
Meanwhile, movies expected to premiere on the platform include Don Quixote, Stargirl, Togo, Lady and the Tramp, The Paper Magician, 3 Men and a Baby, Sword and the Stone, Timmy Failure, Magic Camp, and Noelle.
Pricing and availability for Disney+ have not been revealed yet, but the platform is set to launch in the fall of 2019.
