Universal will debut their first direct-to-video Blu-ray premiere this August, with the release of the action prequel 'The Scorpion King 2.'
Detailing events that take place before the original film, 'The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior' sees TV star Michael Copon taking over the title role from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in what Universal has said is its highest-budgeted direct-to-video production yet.
The studio will premiere 'Scorpion King 2' on Blu-ray August 19, day-and-date with the DVD. (It follows the Blu-ray debut of the original 'The Scorpion King,' which Universal previously announced for a July 22 release.)
There are no tech specs yet for the Blu-ray, but extras shared with the standard DVD are expected to include six featurettes ("The Making of The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior," "Fighting Like an Akkadian," "Becoming Sargon," "Beauty and Brawn," "Creating a Whole New World," "The Visual Effects of The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior"), deleted scenes and a gag reel.
Universal has set a suggested list price of $39.98 for the Blu-ray.
