The company's latest flagship iPad has been revealed.
Apple has announced the newest version of its iPad Pro. The third generation model will be available in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, and offers an all-screen design and improved specs.
The 11-inch model features a resolution of 2388x1668 with 264ppi, while the 12.9-inch model features a resolution of 2732x2048 with 264ppi. Both models use edge-to-edge Liquid Retina Displays with P3 wide color gamut capabilities and support for 600 nits of brightness. Under the hood, the devices are powered by an A12X Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture, the next-gen Neural Engine, and an Embedded M12 coprocessor running iOS 12.
A 12MP rear camera with support for 4K video recording, document scanning, and AR experiences is integrated as well, along with a 7MP TrueDepth front camera designed for Portrait selfies, FaceTime, Animoji, Memoji, and Face ID unlocking. In addition, both cameras offer Smart HDR capabilities.
Meanwhile, the iPad Pro also swaps out the Lightning connector found on previous gen models for a new USB-C connector, offering support for charging, USB 3.1 Gen 2 high-bandwidth data transfers, and output to external displays at up to 5K. Finally, Apple has also revealed a new companion Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio (both sold separately). The second-generation Apple Pencil can magnetically attach to the iPad Pro and wirelessly charge at the same time. Likewise, the device has a new touch sensor to detect taps for new app interaction.
"The new iPad Pro is a huge step forward for powerful, creative, mobile computing; it has an all-new thinner design, speeds through projects with the super-fast A12X Bionic chip and unlocks with a glance using Face ID in any orientation — while you're sitting or standing, with iPad Pro on your desk or lap, with the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "There has never been a mobile device anything like the new iPad Pro; it has a gorgeous edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display that curves into the corners, breakthrough performance that outperforms most laptops, Face ID, support for the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil, advanced new cameras and sensors for the best AR experiences ever in any device, a high-speed USB-C connector, louder speakers, faster wireless and more, all packed into a thinner device that has all-day battery life and is 25 percent smaller in volume."
Apple's new iPad Pro will be available in silver or space grey colors with 64GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options on November 7. The 11-inch model starts at $799, while the 12.9-inch model starts at $999. Meanwhile, the new Apple Pencil ($129) and Smart Keyboard Folio ($179 for 11-inch and $199 for 12.9-inch) will also be available November 7. Pre-orders for all of the products are now live via apple.com.
