Two new 2019 iPad models have been announced.
Apple has detailed the latest versions of its iPad Air and iPad mini. Both models will start hitting stores next week.
"iPad continues to provide magical new experiences for a growing range of uses where it is the absolute best device, from playing games in augmented reality to note-taking and drawing with Apple Pencil, from streaming HD movies and editing 4K films to learning to develop apps with Swift Playgrounds," said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "Today the iPad family takes two big leaps forward with an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air that brings high-end size, features and performance at a breakthrough price, and a major upgrade to the 7.9-inch iPad mini, which also brings Apple Pencil, Retina display and the A12 Bionic chip to the many customers that love its compact size."
The new iPad Air features a 10.5-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with a resolution of 2224x1668 resolution (264 pixels per inch). Meanwhile, the iPad mini features a 7.9-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with a resolution of 2048x1536 (326 pixels per inch).
In addition, both models support wide color (P3) and offer up to 500 nits of brightness. Under the hood, each device is powered by a A12 Bionic chip with 64‑bit architecture and Neural Engine, along with an Embedded M12 coprocessor. An 8MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera are integrated on both models as well, providing advanced photo capture, video recording, and AR (augmented reality) capabilities. Finally, the new iPad Air and iPad mini both support the Apple Pencil accessory as well.
The iPad Air and iPad mini will be available with 64GB or 256GB of storage in silver, space gray, and gold color options. iPad Air models will start at $499 and iPad mini models will start at $399.
