Fri Feb 13, 2009 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, High-Def Anime (all tags)
Honneamise will bring the anime classic 'Akira' to Blu-ray later this month.
Originally expected to receive a Blu-ray release last year, we've received confirmation from the indie distributor that they will release 'Akira' in a first-ever high-def edition on February 24.
Specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with a new 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer (1.85:1) and Japanese audio in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround, PCM 2.0 Stereo, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. An English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround dub is also provided.
Unlike the previous special edition DVD release, extras are comparatively sparse, with only a storyboard collection and five theatrical trailers.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $49.95.
You'll find the latest specs for 'Akira' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under February 24.
