'Digital Video Essentials' Sees Another Delay

For the second time in a month, DVD International has delayed the HD DVD release of its calibration disc 'Digital Video Essentials.'

This first next-gen version of A/V visionary Joe Kane's seminal collection of home theater test patterns and calibration tools was originally given a street date of November 14, then pushed back to December 5 only a few weeks ago. (No Blu-ray version of 'DVE' has yet to be announced.)

Though no changes are expected to the disc's technical specs, one of the disc's producers for DVD International has posted a response to consumers inquires about the delay via a message at the AVS Forum. The statement reads:

"While there have been some delays, as you can all see, I can guarantee that [the] 'Digital Video Essentials' HD DVD is being authored as we speak. As with all new technologies, there are times when problems arise which simply could not have been foreseen... As you may know, Joe Kane would never let a product out his door that is not of the highest caliber. It will be worth the wait!"

Like many early adopters we are greatly looking forward to getting our hands on 'Digital Video Essentials,' but this is one release where quality cannot suffer, so we'll be patient in waiting out the delays and give DVD International props for taking the time to do it right.
