‘Doctor Who’ 7.07 Recap: “There’s Such a Thing as Too Keen”

‘Doctor Who’ 7.07 Recap: “There’s Such a Thing as Too Keen”

It’s been a long, timey-wimey road, but here we are. After dying twice, Clara Oswald has finally come to stay. Perhaps because of how complicated a path this storyline has taken, show-runner Steven Moffat kept Saturday’s ‘Doctor Who’ episode, called ‘The Bells of St. John’, rather low key. However, while it doesn’t have much action, the episode provides plenty of good times and character setup.

‘Happy Endings’ 3.14 & 3.15 Recaps: “No Payments, No Bubbles”

‘Happy Endings’ 3.14 & 3.15 Recaps: “No Payments, No Bubbles”

Oh, hi there. Remember these guys? It’s the gang over at ‘Happy Endings’, returning after months of radio (and more importantly, television) silence. I don’t know who’s in charge of scheduling at ABC, but they should be fired. Keeping a show as smart and funny as ‘Happy Endings’ off the air while running endless, dreary episodes of crap like ‘The Middle’ should be considered a crime. Sadly, it looks more and more likely that the show itself will be fired, as ABC’s currently running a “Save Happy Endings” campaign, which places the onus of the show’s low ratings on the audience and not the network itself. How do you expect any series to do well if you fail to market it, and then change its air day every two weeks?

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.15 Recap: “You’re Cold as Ice, Officer Friendly”

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.15 Recap: “You’re Cold as Ice, Officer Friendly”

‘This Sorrowful Life’, the second-to-last episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 3, bounced back from last week’s lackluster filler episode. Stuff happened in it. Big things. Huge things. Monumental things! Plus, it only has minimal Governor appearances, which is always a plus.

‘Community’ 4.07 Recap: “Get Your Damn Hands Off My Let’s!”

‘Community’ 4.07 Recap: “Get Your Damn Hands Off My Let’s!”

This season, the ‘Community’ writers have played me like a harp. Just when it seems like they’ve devolved into complete self-parody, they rebound with an episode that reminds me why I started watching the show in the first place. Last Thursday’s episode, ‘Economics of Marine Biology’, feels like the ‘Community’ of old.

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.14 Recap: “I Have to Stop This”

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.14 Recap: “I Have to Stop This”

‘The Walking Dead’ went from six episodes in the first season to thirteen in the second, and now the third has been stretched to sixteen. While this is a normal progression for such an insanely popular show, it results in episodes like this week’s ‘Prey’, which has a whole lot of filler, some important setup, and little else.

‘Bates Motel’ Pilot Recap: “I’m the Worst Mother in the World”

‘Bates Motel’ Pilot Recap: “I’m the Worst Mother in the World”

Although the A&E network’s new drama series ‘Bates Motel’, a modern-day reboot of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’, doesn’t officially premiere until this evening, many cable networks have offered a preview of the pilot episode On Demand for the past several days. Intrigued by the concept, I decided to get a jump start on this one early. [Warning: This post will contain spoilers for tonight's episode.]

‘Community’ 4.06 Recap: “More Chang Than Chang at His Changiest”

‘Community’ 4.06 Recap: “More Chang Than Chang at His Changiest”

As far as I’m concerned, the worst thing to ever happen to ‘Community’ – worse than Dan Harmon being fired, worse than this season being delayed for months – is Chang. Ken Jeong’s homunculus of a character began the series as an overbearing Spanish teacher, then became a disgraced student living in the air ducts of Greendale (the one point at which he was actually funny), finally devolving into a mad tyrant who abducts the dean and tries to kill everyone. As an actor, Ken Jeong wore out his welcome sometime around the first ‘Hangover’ movie, and his continual presence on ‘Community’ has been a blight on an otherwise good show. So, you can imagine my joy when I discovered that last week’s episode, ‘Advanced Documentary Filmmaking’, was all about Chang.

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.13 Recap: “We’ve Got a Lot to Talk About”

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.13 Recap: “We’ve Got a Lot to Talk About”

Too bad there’s already another show with that title, because this week’s episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ should have been called “The Talking Dead.”

‘Community’ 4.05 Recap: “Softer Than Wet Cheese”

‘Community’ 4.05 Recap: “Softer Than Wet Cheese”

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! Oh wait, it’s March. Yes, the broadcast delay for this season of ‘Community’ strikes with a vengeance in last week’s Thanksgiving-themed episode, ‘Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations’. Jeff chooses to face his father with Britta in tow, while the others go off to Shirley’s house, as they assume it must be better than being with their own families.

‘The Walking Dead’ 3.12 Recap: “You’ll Be Torn Apart by Teeth or Bullets”

Surprise, surprise. The best episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ in weeks doesn’t feature one appearance from the Governor.
