This week, we leave prison life behind to catch up with ol’ One Eye in a very special episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ entitled “How the Governor Got His Groove Back.” (Actually, it’s called ‘Live Bait’.) Those looking to find out what’s going on with Rick, Daryl, Hershel and the others will have to wait at least one more week, as viewers are treated to a Governor-centric entry that fills us in on what’s happened to the character since he went insane and machine-gunned the majority of his followers.
It’s time for another nostalgic trip down Memory Lane. In this week’s Roundtable, we reminisce about the cartoon series that captured our imaginations when we were younger. Share your favorites with us, won’t you?
For a show that has already stretched believability to its breaking point, one wouldn’t think that CBS’s ‘Hostages’ could get any crazier. Well, strap yourselves in, folks. This week’s episode takes suspension of disbelief to a whole new level. If the preview for next week’s episode (which I won’t reveal here) is any indication, there’s a whole lot more to come.
For a show about the most famous blood-sucking fiend in pop culture history, NBC’s ‘Dracula’ did something kind of interesting on Friday without going out of the way to draw attention to it. All of the violence and killings (and the episode had plenty of both) were committed by the human characters, and none by vampires. Who are the real monsters here?
My DVR has been working overtime lately. It seems like just about every current show is pumping out new episodes. I’m almost looking forward to the holidays and reruns, just so that I can ease up a little. I keep threatening to cut a lot of shows out of my watch list, but somehow that never seems like it would be enough.
Last week, our TV columnist Spike expressed his disappointment that ‘American Horror Story’ had jumped on the zombie bandwagon. While I will agree that zombies have oversaturated the market over the past few years, I don’t have a problem with them on this show. After all, it’s more or less the mission statement of ‘American Horror Story’ to freely mix and match elements of every possible genre of horror storytelling. Zombies had to show up eventually, and after Wednesday’s episode, it looks like we’re done with them anyway.
After last week’s surprise dismissal of Carol from the group, I’m sure that I’m not the only viewer who expected this week’s episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ to be somewhat of a filler episode before things amp up again for the mid-season break. However, in a show that’s full of twists and turns, ‘Internment’ turned out not only to be the best episode of this season, but one of the show’s all-time best entries.
After taking a week off, Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ returned on Tuesday with a new episode. Somehow, it feels like the show was gone for months. I didn’t miss it, and frankly I’d pretty much forgotten about it until it suddenly showed up in my DVR recording list again. That can’t be good, can it?
