Speaking of Horrible Bosses…

Speaking of Horrible Bosses…

NBC has finally settled on a replacement for Steve Carell on the next season of ‘The Office’. Stepping in as Dunder Mifflin’s newest boss will be… James Spader. I think this is the right decision. Don’t you?

Less Product Placement on NBC, Vows VP of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming

Less Product Placement on NBC, Vows VP of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming

Struggling fourth-place network NBC has made a bold, perhaps even reckless decision regarding the upcoming fall TV schedule. The network is going to try to make money by programming shows that people might actually want to watch, rather than just filling its existing low-rated shows with more product placement. What a novel idea!

‘Community’ Season 2 Recap – From the Horse’s Mouth

‘Community’ Season 2 Recap – From the Horse’s Mouth

The TV season may have just ended, but are you missing ‘Community’ already? I sure am. While we wait the next few painful months for Season 3 to begin, you can get a ‘Community’ fix right now by heading over to The A.V. Club and reading that site’s massive 4-part interview with series creator Dan Harmon. Trust me; it’s a great read.

HD Recap: “We Can End This”

Now that it’s all over and done with and officially canceled, we should probably know what the event at the heart of ‘The Event’ actually was, shouldn’t we? Doesn’t that seem like a reasonable expectation? Unfortunately, last week’s season/series finale still didn’t answer that question to any satisfaction. I guess we’ll never know.

R.I.P. TV Shows of 2010

R.I.P. TV Shows of 2010

With the 2010-2011 TV season now drawing to a close, the major networks have held their Upfront presentations in which they preview their fall schedules for advertisers. This is an important time for “bubble” shows (TV series with so-so ratings that may or may not be viable candidates for renewal), because this is where the networks formally announce which existing shows will make the cut for another season and which are dead in the water. Unfortunately, a number of shows of interest to this blog have had their plugs pulled.

HD Recap: “People Disappear in the Finger Lakes”

Last week, NBC’s Thursday night comedies drew to a close with a pair of double headers from ‘The Office’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’. While they both worked, one felt like a bit of an anticlimax and the other left us with a fairly frustrating cliffhanger.

HD Recap: “You’re Not the Spy You Used to Be”

‘Chuck’ finally wrapped up its fourth season last week with a resolution to both the previous episode’s cliffhanger and most of the year’s running storylines. In a lot of ways, the episode sums up the season pretty succinctly. It’s quite uneven on the whole and rather predictable, yet ends with a nice twist that offers hope for better in the future.

HD Recap: “It’s Shagadelic, Baby!”

Last Thursday, the ‘Community’ two-parter picked up where it left off from the previous week and improved dramatically. ‘The Office’ managed an impressive episode even without Michael Scott, and we got a double dose of ‘Parks and Recreation’. It was a pretty good night for comedy on NBC.

HD Recap: “Everything Is Perfect. Nothing Can Go Wrong.”

Well well well, what do you know? Despite the show’s erratic quality and sagging ratings this year, NBC has renewed ‘Chuck’ for a fifth season of at least 13 episodes. At the same time, the network also announced that the fifth will be the final season. Hopefully, this will give the creators enough opportunity to plan for a definitive conclusion and work towards it. In the meantime, the show actually had a pretty good episode last week.

HD Recap: “I Would Never Make a Work-Related Call, You Know That”

If I didn’t know any better, I would have said that we’d already seen the season finales of most of NBC’s Thursday night lineup. Shirley had her kid, Michael Scott left, and the ‘TGS’ season wrapped up. That covers just about everything that you’d expect from season finales, but, for whatever reason, the season goes on.
