Every once in a while, the producers of ‘Castle’ throw in a serious episode, in some attempt to give the show a recurring “mythology” story arc, like a serial drama. While these are considered important episodes, they’re rarely among the show’s best. Such is the case with last week’s episode, in which Beckett gets a little closer to finding her mother’s killer.
The 2011 Oscar Nominations were announced this morning. Follow after the break for a look at which movies the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences believes were last year’s best. ‘Modern Family’ kicks things up this week with one of the funniest episodes of the season. ‘Caught in the Act’ is absolutely hilarious – at least most of it is.
As I wrote in my last ‘Castle’ recap, the show’s first episode back from the holidays was one of its most entertaining ever. While last week’s follow-up, called ‘Poof! You’re Dead’, isn’t quite up to that same level, it’s pretty fun in its own right.
You get two weeks of ‘Modern Family’ in one recap this week. You probably won’t be surprised to hear that the show continues to be great, but these episodes are not without their faults.
I think pretty much everyone was surprised when ABC renewed its alien invasion series ‘V’ after the first season. After high expectations, the show proved to be a cheesy mediocrity with a lot of bad acting, lame writing, and terrible visual effects. Despite its unspectacular ratings, the network must have felt that it still had potential. So here we are, eight months since the last episode, with the start of a brand new second season. Has the show gotten any better?
‘Castle’ was one of the last shows I caught up with before the Christmas break, and it also happens to be one of the first back with new episodes in January. Normally, I let this series sit on my DVR for a bit before watching. Due to lack of anything else worthwhile on the air this week, I tuned in early. Boy, am I glad I did. This week’s episode is one of the most entertaining of the show’s entire run.
Perhaps ABC was a little hasty when it canceled ‘FlashForward’ last year. Even though the show’s ratings weren’t that hot, its sci-fi premise sure looks eerily prescient after recent real-world events involving massive unexplained bird deaths, just like one of the series’ plot lines. When do we get to see the future? I’m looking forward to that part.
Pretty much every television series that I watch is on break until after the holidays. This has given me time to dig through most of my DVR recordings. One of the last shows to air a new episode was ‘Castle’, back on December 6th. Yes, that was two weeks ago, but to be fair, the episode was pre-empted for football in Boston and didn’t air here until the following weekend. In any case, let’s catch up with it now.
