I’ve been excited ever since that amazing ‘Mortal Kombat’ pitch video started making its rounds on the internet. The production value, the tone, and the serious nature of the thing had me all but ready to forget about those awful movies made in the mid ’90s. A clip for the new web series has finally come out and it’s… Well, it’s disappointing at best.
The eSports world is taking off in a big way. Bigger sponsors are entering the fray, production values are ramping up, and prize pools are getting bigger. The recent announcement of the IGN Pro League is the latest to hit the scene, and it goes far to cement competitive gaming as legitimate in the States.
Spring is in the air. It’s getting warm outside. Even those of us living in the chilly North will be able to get outside, take a walk, and maybe shoot some hoops. That’s a good thing too, since there’s not much in the way of new videogames to keep us inside.
‘Duke Nukem Forever’ – a game most famous for being in development longer than it took ‘The Beatles’ to form, write and record 13 albums and then break up – is finally coming out. Well, hopefully it’s coming out. Though the game is now being created by the people at Gearbox, it’s been delayed yet again.
This is a massive week for videogames. You can pick up a new WWE game, a new NASCAR game, and the latest Tiger Woods golf game. That’s all well and good, but this is also the week that the 3DS debuts on U.S. shores.
Somehow, in the last month or so, I completely missed out on this. I’m certain that people told me about it, but it must not have registered in my brain until now. ‘Catherine’, the ultra weird videogame amalgam from Atlus, is making its way to the U.S.
Do you like sequels, iterations on a theme, and other obvious cash-ins? If so, then you’ll love the videogames coming out this week. ‘Crysis 2′ is the closest thing to a new IP. Now that’s saying something.
I approached my first Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) not as a writer or a journalist, but as a fan. I didn’t do much work when I was there, and I’m glad I didn’t try. The experience was amazing, and certainly not something I would have missed if I could avoid it.
Whether you’re excited about this week’s videogame releases or not depends entirely on your attachment to obscure but critically acclaimed games for the PlayStation 2.
