Now Playing: ‘Zookeeper’ Not So Family-Friendly

Now Playing: ‘Zookeeper’ Not So Family-Friendly

After last week’s heated comments around a movie that shall not be named, I feel that I need to preface my ‘Zookeeper’ review by stating that I enjoy well-made family films – emphasis being placed on “well-made.” While I may not have liked many recent family flicks, I am not a hater of family films in general, which you might assume because so few of high quality have been released this year. ‘Zookeeper’ is just another poorly-made, forgettable one that lacks any merit of originality or genuine entertainment. Now Playing: ‘Horrible Bosses’ – Another R-Rated Win for Summer

Now Playing: ‘Horrible Bosses’ – Another R-Rated Win for Summer

Anyone who has ever had a horrible boss knows the true ruin-your-life power that one can wield. I’ve had two that caused me to quit – once without notice in the middle of a shift. Although I’ve never had a boss so bad that I fantasized about his/her untimely demise, it’s easy to understand why our trio of mistreated central characters in ‘Horrible Bosses’ would want to kill theirs.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Transformers’ Destroys the Competition

Weekend Box Office: ‘Transformers’ Destroys the Competition

The Fourth of the July weekend is arguably the biggest and most coveted opening slot of summer. There’s usually one unstoppable Goliath movie and a couple of little ones that don’t stand much of a chance no matter when they’re released. This weekend was no exception. While the Goliath is always going to win, the smaller films try to appeal to an opposing audience so that they may still have a draw.

Weekend Movies: Bayformers to Rule Them All

Weekend Movies: Bayformers to Rule Them All

With the latest ‘Transformers’ already three and a half days into its theatrical run, the film may not be breaking any noteworthy records, but it’s definitely on track to hold the biggest opening of 2011 (so far). Most teenagers are expected to choose ‘Dark of the Moon’ over Selena Gomez’s teen flick ‘Monte Carlo’, but Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts’ middle-age comedy ‘Larry Crowne’ may have a decent pull for the adult audiences.

Yes, This Does Deserve Its Own Post, Actually

Yes, This Does Deserve Its Own Post, Actually

I could have just posted this in the comments to our own review of the movie, but the discussion there has gotten a little heated, and I wanted to make sure that everyone could see this. I really needed to call attention to the fact that the hilarious Topless Robot blog has published its much-anticipated, profanity-filled “Transformers 3 FAQ,” and it is a thing of beauty.

Now Playing: ‘Larry Crowne’ – Another Charmer from Hanks and Playtone

Now Playing: ‘Larry Crowne’ – Another Charmer from Hanks and Playtone

The first footage I ever saw from ‘Larry Crowne’ was a short clip that Tom Hanks showed on the first episode of Conan O’Brien’s TBS late night talk show. It showed Hanks stopped on an old scooter talking to Julia Roberts. Being a fan of Hanks, I was all about seeing his latest film until Julia Roberts showed up on screen. After that, I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in ‘Larry Crowne’ anymore. When I walked into the press screening, with the exception of that one scene, I knew nothing about the film. Imagine my joyous surprise when it actually started to win me over.

Mid-Week Poll: Which Summer Movie Will You See This July 4th Weekend?

This coming Monday is the 4th of July. For our American readers, that means a long weekend and plenty of time to catch one or more of the year’s big summer movies. What do you plan to see?

Now Playing: Bay Brings Nothing New to the ‘Transformers’ Table

Now Playing: Bay Brings Nothing New to the ‘Transformers’ Table

Earlier this year, Michael Bay admitted that the 2009 ‘Transformers’ sequel ‘Revenge of the Fallen“was crap” (his words). Of course, he placed most of blame on the Writer’s Strike, not himself. With the third and (supposedly) final ‘Transformers’ movie opening this week, Bay has claimed that ‘Dark of the Moon’ makes up for ‘Revenge of the Fallen’. My opinion: Don’t fall for his lies.

Weekend Box Office: Both ‘Cars 2′ and ‘Bad Teacher’ Blow Predictions Out of the Water

Weekend Box Office: Both ‘Cars 2′ and ‘Bad Teacher’ Blow Predictions Out of the Water

As expected, family-friendly ‘Cars 2′ raced to first place this weekend against crude adult comedy ‘Bad Teacher’. The surprising part? Both outgrossed their weekend predictions by more than $10 million.

Is Disney Already Worried About the Attendance for ‘Cars’?

Is Disney Already Worried About the Attendance for ‘Cars’?

Disney currently appears to be throwing up a last-minute Hail Mary to entice audiences this weekend to attend ‘Cars 2′ in 3D. After watching the percentages of folks attending 3D screenings diminish in favor of 2D over the last two months (especially with Disney’s own ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’), it’s no wonder why the studio would push ‘Cars 2′ in 3D especially hard.
