Onkyo Announces a Flagship THX Certified Blu-ray Player[teaser]The BD-SP808 launches this September at $599. [/teaser] Back in 1994, Onkyo came out with the world's first THX certified A/V receiver. Needless to say, it went over well, and Onkyo's engineers have been working closely with THX since. The BD-SP808 is the latest Blu-ray player to come out of Onkyo, and THX certification is among its many features. The player is capable of just about everything you'd expect a flagship player from Onkyo to do. It decodes the latest in high definition audio formats, plays back Blu-rays at 1080p, and upscales standard definition DVDs thanks to a Marvel Qdeo scaler. It's incredibly slick looking, featuring a strong and rigid chassis that helps to minimize the effects of vibrations. The drive mechanism is mounted right in the center for the same reason. You'll find an HDMI output on the back of the BD-SP808, as well as stereo, optical and coaxial audio outputs. There's a component output too, and even one for composite video – just in case you want to go standard definition with your beautiful new Blu-ray player. The BD-SP808 launches this September at a price of $599 along with Denon's other THX certified separates. Source: eCousticsPosted Wed Sep 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -

Roku Players Get a $30 Price Drop[teaser]One of the best deals in media streaming just got better. [/teaser] What's not to love about Roku's media player line? Roku players work well, don't take up a lot of space, and they're cheap. They've only gotten better as a "value for the money" proposition, since Roku just dropped the prices on all players by a whopping $30. That means that the Roku HD-XR – which packs built in 802.11n Wi-Fi capabilities – is now just $99. If you don't need a wireless solution, the Roku HD comes in at just $69. Those who favor a standard definition solution can pick up the Roku SD for a mere $59. The Roku HD-XR was already one of the best options for Netflix streaming, and the price drop makes it even nicer. It's almost certain that this deal was designed to hit just before Apple's rumored announcement of the new Apple TV. Whatever the reason, this pricing strategy is a big win for consumers. LG Introduces the LEX 8 and Nano Lighting Technology for Ultra-Thin Televisions[teaser]LG's newest set measures just 88mm thick, thanks to the new tech. [/teaser] It seemed as though the race to the thinnest TV was over, but with new technology being added regularly, the race is back on. LG's latest entry is the LEX 8, an absolutely amazing looking set that measures in at just 88mm thick. It's not just the set that's thin – the bezel has been shrunk down to an amazing 1.25cm thick. That makes it the thinnest bezel for any fully LED backlit television. Nano Lighting Technology is what enabled LG to create such a thin set and bezel. It's a new tech that uses standard LEDs with a film of tiny dots in front of them, dispersing light more evenly around the screen. It may not sound like a big deal, but CEO Simon Kang says there's nothing else like it. "LG is continuing to set new standards in TV technology and demonstrating once again that we're pushing the envelope of home entertainment." Kang compares the technological jump between standard lighting and Nano lighting to the one between standard and high definition. "Just as difficult as it is to watch standard TV after experiencing high definition, people will resist going back to regular LED LCD TVs after viewing the LEX8."
