Paradigm Launches New Monitor Series 7 Subwoofers[teaser]The new subs offer performance in a small package, with ranges down to 16Hz. [/teaser] When you think about Paradigm subwoofers, you might think of the hexagonally shaped Sub 1 and Sub 2 from their Signature line. They're sweet subs and totally cool looking, but they don't fit every aesthetic. Paradigm's new Monitor Series 7 subwoofers carry a bit of the same technology as the Sub 1 and Sub 2 but with a more conventional design. These single driver subs are powered by Ultra-Class D amplifiers that deliver 300 watts of sustained power and 900 watts peak. Inside you'll find a 4.5 pound ferrite magnet - bumped up to 6.5 for the top of the line Sub 12. You'll find the Sub 8, which pumps out audio down to a frequency of 18Hz, for $699. The Sub 10 can go down to 17Hz at a price of $849 and the Sub 12, which packs a larger voice coil and magnet, can get sound down to 16Hz and comes in at $999. Netflix Loses 810,000 Subscribers in Third Quarter of 2011[teaser]Raising prices and confusing/angering people with Qwickster made them lose subscribers - who could have guessed? [/teaser] The folks over at Netflix have something really amazing on their hands that no one could have predicted. They've got an impressive service with a giant subscriber base and it seems like they're at the point where they don't know exactly what to do with it. That uncertainty has resulted in a series of moves that really upset the subscriber base. First, the company raised prices without adding anything new. People got upset, but price changes happen - it's not the first time and it won't be the last. Then the folks at Netflix tried to split off the DVD side of the service into a new one called Qwickster. That really didn't go over well and the idea was quickly scrapped. Two big changes in a row was too much for quite a few subscribers and the service suffered for it. Over eight hundred thousand subscribers have now left the service and, as you might expect, Netflix isn't too happy about it. They're not ignorant as to why it happened though, stating "Our primary issue is many of our long‐term members felt shocked by the pricing changes, and more of them have expressed that by cancelling Netflix than we expected." 'Apollo 18' Blu-ray Detailed[teaser]The sci-fi thriller coming to Blu-ray in December has now been fully detailed. [/teaser] As previously reported, Starz/Anchor Bay is working on 'Apollo 18' for Blu-ray on December 27. In the same vein as such blockbusters as 'The Blair Witch Project' and 'Paranormal Activity,' the film unearths alleged lost Department of Defense footage to construct a riveting story of the events that unfolded during this covert mission to the moon. Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon. The Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include an audio commentary with director Gonzalo López-Gallego and editor Patrick Lussier, deleted and alternate scenes, alternate endings, among other bonus features to be confirmed. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.99. You can find the latest specs for 'Apollo 18' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under December 27.Posted Tue Oct 25, 2011 at 12:00 PM PDT by: -
Netflix Plans European Expansion - Hires Exec for Original Content Acquisition[teaser]This may or may not come as much of a surprise, but Netflix wants to keep getting bigger. [/teaser] Hard to believe, but Netflix is still on the rise, and despite recent PR and tactical disasters, the people in charge are trying to make sure it stays that way. After branching out to Latin America, they've decided to expand overseas to the UK and Ireland. It's a big move, which is what Netflix seems to be really into these days, but if successful it could pay huge dividends. The UK launch is expected in early 2012. In addition to announcing this new expansion, the company has hired on a new executive in charge of original content acquisition. The new exec - Peter Friedlander, formerly of Playtone - will be focusing his efforts on shows produced exclusively for Netflix. We already know that Netflix is going to be the only place to check out 'House of Cards,' but they're making plays for new episodes of 'Reno 911!' and of course 'Arrested Development' as well. Whether this change in focus works or not could have a huge influence on the future of the company, and will definitely affect the way that Netflix is seen in the eyes of consumers. Sony's Personal 3D Viewer Out in UK - US Release Tomorrow![teaser]If you're looking for a 3D experience that you don't have to share, the HMZ-T1 is the way to go. [/teaser] Despite the flaws present in a personal media viewer - tiny sweet spot for viewing, discomfort or incompatibility with glasses, looking like a tool - the idea of being able to lay back and enjoy a 3D movie with 5.1 surround without anyone else bothering you is pretty slick. Sony boasts an immersive experience that's like "you're sitting 12 feet away from a 150 inch screen" just like being in "your very own movie theater." It offers a pair of OLED displays and, of course, you don't need to put on any additional glasses for the 3D experience. Sony's 3D personal media veiwer, the HMZ-T1, is available in the UK now and will be hitting the states on Wednesday the 26th. You can preorder it directly from Sony or pick it up on Amazon. Either way, you're going to be shelling out $800. Source: EngadgetPosted Tue Oct 25, 2011 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -
'Harry Potter' Home Video Releases Disappearing in December[teaser]Warner will stop shipping the products just after Christmas. Warner Home Video plans to release a comprehensive Harry Potter film collection, with even more extras and collectible premiums in 2012.
