'Burke & Hare' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The 1972 black comedy will make its high-definition debut in July. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Kino Video is prepping 'Burke & Hare' for Blu-ray on July 17. Two of the most notorious figures in the history of medicine, William Burke and William Hare were a pair of enterprising street thugs who provided anatomical specimens to the Edinburgh Medical College--often by robbing the graves of the recently dead, sometimes through even more nefarious methods. Derren Nesbitt and Glynn Edwards bring these two scoundrels to life in 'Burke & Hare,' a colorful, early '70s rendition of life in the taverns, brothels, and surgical theatres of 1820s Scotland. While other filmmakers have treated the Burke and Hare murders as a source of gothic horror, director Vernon Sewell ('The Blood Beast Terror') offers a playful spin on the Irish body snatchers, blending dark comedy with bawdy eroticism, seasoning it with the grotesque, then crowning it with a playful theme song by the pop band The Scaffold. Specs have yet to be revealed, but supplements will include Grave Desires: Corpses on Film -- an interview with Dr. Patricia MacCormack, Interview with actress Francoise Pascal, and the original theatrical trailer. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.95. You can find the latest specs for 'Burke & Hare' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under July 17.Posted Tue Jun 26, 2012 at 08:00 AM PDT by: -

Sony and Panasonic Partner for OLED Mass Production in 2013[teaser]The rumored partnership is now official and we'll start seeing TVs from the two companies next year. [/teaser] To say that Sony and Panasonic are lagging behind in the race for OLED domination is an understatement. They don't even have a car on the track. In order to catch up to Korean manufacturers who are focusing on the new tech, the two companies are teaming up. Panasonic and Sony will be developing new methods of printing and get mass production up and running by 2013. The hope is that they'll be able to come up with something that will let them beat out LG and Samsung on price, which would hugely help their position in the marketplace. Though the two will be working together, they'll still be competing against each other when their sets are released. You'll see the same tech, but different products, each with their own features. 'Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season' Blu-ray Discontinued... And Reissued[teaser]We suspect Ichabod Crane was hired to silence the George W. Bush severed head controversy in July. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, HBO seems to be preparing to re-release 'Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season' on Blu-ray on July 10. In case you missed the news, a leftover prop head from George Bush was used as one of the severed heads in an episode on the show -- not as a political statement, but because that's what the prop department had lying around. But of course, some people started crying about it and as we all know when people start crying... reissues tend to happen. The head will apparently be removed from the reissued product since that is just easier than sending pacifiers out by mail. Specs and supplements are expected to match the discontinued version with a suggested list price of $79.98. You can find the latest specs for the neutered "The Sky is Falling' edition of 'Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under July 10.Posted Mon Jun 25, 2012 at 06:00 AM PDT by: -
