Meridian is Upgrading its Audio Components and Speakers[teaser]Updated versions of the speakers and components will be available before the end of the year. [/teaser] Meridian is one of those "man, if I ever hit it big" kind of brands. They make the gear that most people will never be able to afford, but we still love to drool over – especially those massive speakers. The new DSP7200 L/R speakers and DSP7200 HC center channel certainly fit into that category, and pack a new tweeter as well as better low end audio response. You'll be able to pick these up for $19,000 per speaker in November. Also new are the $22,000 Signature Reference 808v5 CD player, $25,000 861v8 Reference Digital Sound Controller, and the $16,000 818v2 Reference Audio Core. These feature a variety of improvements and will be available in November. Those wishing to upgrade their existing gear will be able to, for a price, come December. 'About Cherry' Dated for Blu-ray[teaser]The drama screened at the Berlin International Film Festival will hit Blu-ray in January. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, MPI has slated 'About Cherry' for Blu-ray on January 15. This bold debut film by author Stephen Elliott, a visual love letter to San Francisco, is the story of high school student Angelina (Ashley Hinshaw), whose choices lead her from a depressing home life and dead-end job in Los Angeles to the fetish-filled Bay Area adult film world. A stepfather with dark motives lurks in the background, as Angelina watches over her younger sister and questions her options. In memorable supporting roles are Festival favorite Lili Taylor as Angelina's manic and opportunistic mother, Jonny Weston as her sexy but sleazy boyfriend and Dev Patel as best friend and much-needed nonsexual support. The vibrant cast also includes James Franco as a coke-addicted attorney who spots Angelina in a strip club, and Heather Graham as a female porn director who launches "Cherry's" adult film career with mixed feelings. A gritty and defiantly voyeuristic look at the life of a youth who never loses her innocence, even as she gyrates for the camera, Cherry captures a rare point of view, urging us to consider the delicate tension between body and self by focusing on society's most sought after objects of desire. The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and no supplements have been announced. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98. 'The Package' Blu-ray Announced[teaser]Steve Austin takes on Dolph Lundgren on Blu-ray this February. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Starz/Anchor Bay is working on 'The Package' for Blu-ray on February 19. Directed by Jesse V. Johnson and written by Derek Kolstad, 'The Package' features Austin as Tommy Wick, a nightclub bouncer and enforcer for Seattle crime boss Big Doug (Eric Keenleyside, 'Dreamcatcher,' 'Firewall'). When Big Doug instructs Tommy to hand-deliver a secret package to the mysterious international crime lord “The German,” (Lundgren), he does so with the hopes that Big Doug will forgive the debt Tommy’s brother Eddie (Lochlyn Munroe, 'White Chicks,' 'Freddy vs. Jason') owes. Anthony will stop at nothing to ensure its capture. Facing incredible odds, Tommy races against the ticking clock – and a small army of hit men, mercenaries, assassins and sadists -- to complete delivery. This Year's Black Friday is the Biggest Shopping Day on Record[teaser]Consumer electronics and media like Blu-rays and DVDs made up for a majority of purchases. [/teaser] As usual, Black Friday was a good day for stores and customers alike, with the former getting more foot traffic and the chance to earn return visits and the latter walking out with amazing deals on different items. Spending was up overall, by $25 per person on average. That number increased for both online and brick and mortar shopping alike. According to the National Retail Federation, media like books, Blu-rays and DVDs were purchased by 39 percent of buyers while consumer electronics were picked up by 37.7 percent. The highest category, as usual, was clothing. There's some debate about how worthwhile sales like these are for retailers, but Shawn DuBravac of the CEA says that retailers know how to make them work. They may be selling at or under cost, but the ability to sell high margin accessories, warranties and even gift cards makes a huge difference. Source: TWICEPosted Tue Nov 27, 2012 at 09:00 AM PST by:
