A key to a decade of 'Castlevania' games goes independent.
Koji Igarashi, aka IGA, a key producer, programmer and director behind games like 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night,' 'Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance,' and 'Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow,' has left his producing post at Konami. According to comments published by Polygon, after 20 years at Konami, Igarashi is looking for more "freedom."
"I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make — the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well. Leaving Konami was a big decision, and not one I took lightly — I've spent my entire career there, made many friends, and had a lot of great opportunities — but I hope all the gamers and fans who have supported me in the past will join me in being excited about what comes next. Wish me luck!"
In addition to pursuing an independent game and team, Igarashi will be presenting this Friday at GDC. The session is entitled 'There and Back Again: Koji's Igarashi's Metroidvania Tale.'
Igarashi's departure follows a period where the veteran 'Castlevania' producer was separated from the series as the three part 'Castlevania: Lords of Shadow' sub series was produced and released.
