'Overwatch', 'Uncharted 4', 'Doom', and more up for Game of the Year.
Today, The Game Awards have revealed the full list of nominees for every category in this year's edition of the annual event show. Most notably are, of course, the Game of the Year awards, which are as follows:
Doom (id Software / Bethesda)
Inside (Playdead)
Overwatch (Blizzard Entertainment)
Titanfall 2 (Respawn / Electronic Arts)
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog / Sony Interactive Entertainment)
Some of the other notable categories include Best Studio / Game Direction:
Blizzard (for Overwatch)
DICE (for Battlefield 1)
id Software (for Doom)
Naughty Dog (for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End)
Respawn (for Titanfall 2)
Best Narrative:
Firewatch (Campo Santo)
Inside (Playdead)
Mafia III (Hangar 13 / 2K Games)
Oxenfree (Night School Studio)
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog / Sony Interactive Entertainment)
Best Independent Game:
Firewatch (Campo Santo)
Hyper Light Drifter (Heart Machine)
Inside (Playdead)
Stardew Valley (ConcernedApe / Chucklefish Games)
The Witness (Thekla)
This is only a sampling of quite a few categories, of which you can see the full list here.
It has also been stated that game reveals at the ceremony will contain little CG in response to the backlash that 'No Man's Sky received, as the game was first shown at the 2013 VGX Awards, also headed up by Game Awards manager Geoff Keighley. It's a welcome shift for the show, to be sure. As far as the GOTY award itself, I'm personally hoping 'Overwatch' wins out there.
The Game Awards 2016 will air on December 1st at 6:00 PM P.T. The event will be livestreamed, but for those interested, tickets can be purchased here.
