Since severing the connection between the Xbox One and Kinect with a $400 model, Microsoft has seen increased sales of its new console. That isn't stopping them from trying to further capitalize on the Kinect, despite clear distaste for the peripheral in the market.
Microsoft is going to release a standalone model of the Kinect in October for owners of a standalone Xbox One who might be second-guessing their disdain for voice controls. Here's the catch: it's going to cost $150, putting the combined price of the individual models $50 above the original bundle, albeit with 'Dance Central Spotlight' included as a digital download.
More or less, this expensive standalone Kinect is going to serve as incentive to drop $500 early on for the bundled version of the Xbox One, instead of waiting to spend $50 extra later on, assuming you're on the edge about the peripheral. Then again, you could just really be into 'Dance Central,' which isn't as unlikely as the hardcore crowd might expect.
Oddly enough, it doesn't look like this particularl model of the Kinect 2.0 is compatible with PC.
