It's a sad day, true believers.
Stan Lee, the legendary co-creator of countless Marvel comic book superheroes, has passed away at the age of 95. Famous for being the face of Marvel, Lee made frequent cameo appearances in his later years throughout various Marvel Studios films, including this summer's Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War.
"No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee," said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, in a statement on Twitter. "Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all. Our thoughts are with his daughter, his family, and his millions of fans."
According to a family representative speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee died early this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. At various points in his career, Lee served as a writer, editor, and publisher for Marvel Comics after first starting as a gofer for the company's predecessor, Timely Comics, in 1939.
Teamed with artists like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Bill Everett, Lee co-created many of Marvel's most iconic superheroes, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Men, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Thor, and the Silver Surfer. Movies based on his properties continue to help shape the blockbuster film industry, and fans have grown fond of spotting his various cameos appearances in big screen MCU titles. Check out the video below from SuperHeroesEvolution for a fun recap of every cameo he's had (as of December 2017).
Taking to Twitter and Instagram to honor the legendary creator, several MCU stars and other collaborators have posted various tributes to Lee on social media, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Josh Brolin.
