Sony at E3.
Sony' E3 briefing was peppered with AAA titles, indie gems and some odd TV and movies bits, yet it still remains undeniable the two developers most important to the PS4's AAA strategy. The first is, as it has been for so long now, Naughty Dog:
'The Last of Us Remastered' for the PS4 isn't long off now, set for release July 29. 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' is set for release sometime in 2015, likely near the end of the year.
And then there's the exclusive new IP out of From Software, 'Bloodborne,' marking the return of 'Dark Souls' director Hidetaka Miyazaki after he took a break during 'Dark Souls II' development. Though the trailer is less about gameplay and more about atmosphere, it's clearly going in the expectedly dark direction known from the studio:
It's notable that these two studios are holding so strong, especially From Software, who took a hiatus from Playstation exclusivity for the 'Dark Souls' series. 'Demon Souls,' the forebear to the series, was a PS3 exclusive. 'The Order: 1886,' has had a fair showing so far, more impressive for its looks than its gameplay ideas. It's more-or-less, from the public's view, a third-person shooter with horror elements. Developer Ready at Dawn hasn't yet earned the storytelling pedigree to lean on fairly routine gameplay as the 'Uncharted' series does.
Outside of these games, though, and a bit of a lovetap from Bungie studios as of late, Sony's PS4 still draws its most unique talent from the indie sphere, whereas Microsoft has concentrated on big-budget titles in a bigger way.
