Exclusive to the PS4, followed by the PC.
No doubt, the saga that has seen Konami exit AAA gaming while locking down Hideo Kojima has cast gloom not only over the release of 'Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,' but also a large part of the industry.
Finally, with Konami and Kojima formally split, Sony has announced a deal to have Hideo Kojima and the new Kojima Productions develop a PS4 exclusive game. By "exclusive," it means that the game will also make its way to the PC.
From Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, "PlayStation's history is one of game innovation and great new franchises. Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family."
From Hideo Kojima, "I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise."
Kojima is of course well known for the 'Metal Gear'/'Metal Gear Solid' franchise. Kojima repeatedly attempted to leave 'Metal Gear' for other projects, with the end result being that by the PS3/PS4 era, he was only able to work on 'Metal Gear.' Fans will also know of his work on 'Snatcher,' 'Policenauts,' 'Boktai,' 'Zone of the Enders,' and even the abortive 'P.T.,' but now as independent studio head, Kojima will hopefully free not just to choose which projects to pursue, but to communicate with the community, which is something that was very curtailed over the past year.
A mission statement from the new Kojima Productions, which starts with "We are Homo Ludens (Those who play)," can be found here.
