To celebrate the 25th anniversary of 'Sonic the Hedgehog' an event was held in Tokyo where Sonic Team confirmed that a new game is currently in production, with further details due on July 22nd at an event in San Diego. The July 22nd event will be livestreamed via Twitch. For those interested, the entire Tokyo celebration event can be watched right here:
It's going to be interesting to see if Sonic Team can pull out something worthwhile after the last few entries in the franchise have ranged from mediocre (Sonic Team's own 'Lost World) to horrible ('Rise of Lyric'). Though it stands to reason that the studio will likely try and pull out all the stops for the anniversary.
