The voluntary recall program has been expanded for Samsung's discontinued mobile device.
Following the termination of sales and production for its Galaxy Note7 smartphone, Samsung is now offering an expanded refund and exchange program for all original and replacement units. The Galaxy Note7 has been discontinued and recalled due to continued safety concerns related to overheating and fire risks.
"We appreciate the patience of our consumers, carrier and retail partners for carrying the burden during these challenging times," says Tim Baxter, president and chief operating officer, Samsung Electronics America. "We are committed to doing everything we can to make this right."
The Galaxy Note7 was first recalled in early September, but now the company has halted all production, sales, and exchanges for the smartphone around the world, effectively terminating the troubled device. Though replacement models shipped late last month were initially thought to be safe, recent reports indicated that the new models could still pose overheating and fire risks.
Starting October 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. ET, customers in the US can choose from the following Note7 Refund and Exchange Program options:
- Up to a $100 total bill credit for a customer who exchanges a Note7 for any Samsung smartphone.
- A $25 total bill credit for a customer who exchanges a Note7 for a refund or other branded smartphone.
"Customers' safety remains a top priority and we ask consumers with an original or replacement Galaxy Note7 to power down and take advantage of the remedies available," adds Baxter.
