"The first major update."
Harmonix new 'Rock Band 4' is not even out yet (October 6th), but the developer has announced that the game will receive its "first major update" this December. On the 8th of December, 'Rock Band 4' on both the PS4 & Xbox One is scheduled to receive a free update. This update is described as containing "new social and competitive features, along with some surprises for fans." This update has been produced in part as a response to fan feedback, and as such, will add variable breakneck speeds. This will allow players to control note scrolling speeds for each track, which should cater to different tastes and skills playing in the same band.
This has been promised as the first of many updates as 'Rock Band 4' is being positioned as a continuing product.
From Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak, "With the core game already shipping to retailers for an October 6 launch, we’re excited to start looking at the future of Rock Band for our fans. We already have a team hard at work building new features for the platform, some based on player feedback, along with some surprises, including a new mode that changes gameplay in a really significant way that we think people are going to love."
From Product Manager Daniel Sussman, "We've said that we’re viewing Rock Band 4 as a platform that we will build on over time, and this first feature update is just the beginning; we can’t wait to share more details after launch."
With a major update promised, it will be interesting to see how the launch version of the game is received by the community. At the very least, fans might expect that major feedback will be worked into the game if possible at some future date.
