The Firefox-powered smart TVs are now hitting stores worldwide.
Panasonic and Mozilla have announced the release of Panasonic's latest collection of Ultra HD TVs. The new displays all feature Mozilla's Firefox smart TV platform.
"Through our partnership with Mozilla and the openness and flexibility of Firefox OS, we have been able to create a more user friendly and customizable TV UI. This allows us to provide a better user experience for our consumers providing a differentiator in the Smart TV market," said Masahiro Shinada, Director of the TV Business Division at Panasonic Corporation.
Though specific models and pricing will vary by country, the Firefox-powered lineup includes the CR850, CR730, CX800, CX750, CX700 and CX680. The Firefox smart TV platform offers HTML5 support for Web apps and an intuitive and customizable user interface that lets customers quickly access their favorite channels, apps, websites and content on other devices. Panasonic's 2015 Ultra HD lineup includes both curved and flat screen models as well as displays that support high dynamic range and wide color gamuts.
The Firefox-powered Panasonic Ultra HD TVs are now available in Europe. A US release is expected in the coming months, and the TC-55CX800U ($1,499), TC-60CX800U ($1,999), and TC-65CX800U ($2,499) are now available for pre-order through Panasonic's website.
