A good problem to have?
I've played lots of 'Street Fighter V,' and for the most part, I think it's an excellent game. That said, on the 8th day of release, I still don't see how I could be comfortable publishing a review. Prior to release, the game was a pure joy. The online worked, and connecting wasn't an issue. Of course, certain content pieces are missing. Some are coming as soon as March while others might not to be in the works for a while.
Still, the actual gameplay is amazing. Better than advertised. The roster is hardly lacking as well, even if I'm looking forward to the fighters due out this year.
The problem though, as at this point anyone could guess, is the online. That includes the offline survival mode or even just times when I've loaded the game online to find I can't even sign into my profile. This past weekend was extremely rocky.
For now, I've completely given up on Battle Lounges. I had to actually toss my new fightstick (see here) in the trunk and drive to a friend's house just to play a few matches. Our other friends missed out.
The game is suffering from overloaded servers in all areas and the offline content is far too shy to offset this ongoing problem. As a reviewer, I know that the game will grow and change, but even in the short term, I'm left to either condemn the online faltering (a fixable issue of server stability and demand) or ignore it. (The game is like a two-face right now.)
A new update on launch status from Capcom pretty much confirms that loading up the game is still going to be a roughshod experience, potentially full of disconnects and similar errors.
Looking towards this weekend, I'm frustrated by the problems and how they are like to consume a review which should be about having the controller or fightstick in my hands.
