All in under a month.
Alongside the announcement that Satoru Iwata would remain in his post as Nintendo's President, the company also revealed staggeringly high 'Mario Kart 8' sales. Over two million copies of the game, released less than a month ago on May 30, have been sold through to customers worldwide. Multiple outlets have confirmed the number with Nintendo.
Two million is a large number, but considering the last official tally on Wii U sales (marked from March 31) was around 6.17 million, the attach rate between software and hardware is completely bonkers. Granted, 'Mario Kart 8' has also boosted sales of the console, though Nintendo was sly about specific numbers on that front. The 'Mario Kart 8' Wii U bundle is sure to have helped the sales along nicely as well.
High-Def Digest granted the title a rare perfect score. That such a great game also comes with another Wii U game as part of a summer promotion - 'Pikmin 3,' 'The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD,' 'New Super Mario Bros. U' or 'Wii Party U,' - it becomes more and more clear the perfect storm of marketing Nintendo conjured for its most important title of 2014.
