Sequel coming in two years, minus one of its devs.
The 'Dark Souls'-inspired action RPG 'Lords of the Fallen' apparently did pretty well for itself last year, selling 900,000 copies sold. And with that kind of success comes the sequel talk, and in an interview with Eurogamer, CI Games' boss, Marek Tyminski has confirmed that a sequel is going forward, aiming for a 2017 release.
Says Tyminski of the sequel: "We have very clear thinking on how we want to make 'Lords of the Fallen 2' and we have a very good idea. We're taking all of the lessons from 'Lords of the Fallen 1' to make, first of all, a much better game, and second, to make it more efficient from the production perspective."
That last bit isn't necessarily explicit but might point a subtle finger as to why the sequel is going forward, but without one of the co-developers of the original, Deck 13. Still, Tyminski is loath to say why the developer isn't returning
"To be honest it's confidential," he said. "We have spoken about certain things we could probably do after the release of 'Lords of the Fallen' but at the end of the day we came to the conclusion, both sides, that it won't happen, and as far as I know they have another project, and I wish them luck."
Tyminski also talks a bit in the interview about a rather scattershot development process, with teams working on the game from China and the UK. It shows a bit in the final product. Here's hoping the sequel can dig out a bit more from its inspiration's shadow.
