The unique display can be rolled up when not in use.
LG Display has revealed its latest innovation in OLED tech. The newly unveiled 65-Inch 4K Rollable OLED Display can actually be curled up into its base for convenient storage.
"LG Display is all about innovative products that provide new value to customers," said Dr. Sang-Beom Han, Vice Chairman and CEO of LG Display. "We will firmly establish our position as a leading company by responding to market expectations and providing differentiated value in the rapidly expanding OLED market as well as the existing LCD market."
The 65-inch Rollable 4K display takes advantage of flexible OLED panel technology to enable the screen to be rolled up and hidden inside its rectangular base through the press of a button. This space-saving feature adds an extra level of portability, allowing users to easily move and store the unit. In addition, the retractable screen gives users the option to change the display's aspect ratio depending on how much of the panel is unrolled, providing different modes for 16:9 and 21:9 content. Likewise, the TV can also lower even further to offer just enough space for news updates, weather, or other info. Though a commercial model has not been announced yet, the rollable OLED is being demoed now at CES 2018 in Las Vegas.
And beyond the rollable OLED, LG also announced several other display innovations, including an 88-inch 8K OLED. Likewise, the company has upgraded its Crystal Sound OLED technology from 2.1 channel sound to 3.1 channel sound, while also expanding the feature to support LCD panels. This tech allows sound to come directly from the screen itself. In addition, LG is also showcasing its LCD IPS nano-color tech which uses nanoscale high-color reproduction particles to render colors, and LCD U-IPS tech which reduces light reflections on a panel.
