Specially curated titles from Criterion's library will be available to stream on the Fandor platform.
Fandor has announced a new deal with Hulu and Criterion that will bring select Criterion movies to the company's subscription streaming service. Under the arrangement, Fandor will debut a new slate of movies each week all under a unifying theme, for a total of about 30 Criterion titles every month.
"We are thrilled to be working with Criterion and Hulu to reach a passionate community of the most enthusiastic film lovers in North America. It feels great to give our audience what they really want, the best auteurs and the best movies from the best partners,” said Fandor CEO Ted Hope.
The first group of Criterion movies launched on Fandor this week under the "Expeditions" theme. The lineup includes: 'Burden of Dreams,' 'The Four Feathers,' 'The Gold Rush,' 'Letter Never Sent,' 'Sanders of the River,' 'The Wages of Fear,' and 'Woman in the Dunes.' The next wave, titled "Island Life," will debut on November 18, and will include films like Michelangelo Antonioni's 'L'avventura' and Ingmar Bergman's 'Through a Glass Darkly.' November 25 will then see the debut of the "Family Troubles" series, which includes movies like John Cassavetes' 'A Woman Under the Influence' and Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 'Ali: Fear Eats the Soul.' Each film will be available to stream for a 12 day window. After that period, the movies will be available on Hulu. In addition, select titles will also include special features.
Fandor subscriptions start out at $7.50 per month. The service is available on a variety of platforms, including PCs, Roku, Chromecast, Fire Tablets, and Android & iOS devices.
