Twitch and Youtube, sitting in a tree.
Gamesbeat is reporting that they have confirmed Google's purchase of popular video game streaming website Twitch, compounding its video-streaming empire even more (Google owns Youtube, too). The final valuation is likely to come in at around $1 billion.
Rumors of both Google and Microsoft's interest in purchasing the company drummed up a couple of months ago, and it's worth saying that neither Google nor Twitch have released an official statement on the subject now or any time before. Gamebeat claims the confirmation comes from "sources familiar with the matter."
The valuation is also speculation, a mirror of those rumors before. According to Gamesbeat:
"We don’t know everything about this deal, such as when it will be announced and the exact purchase price. We do know that Twitch investors who participated in past rounds are pleased that they will be getting significant returns that are multiple times the amount they originally invested."
