A rebirth.
It's been one heck of year for horror games. Some would say the most notable development was the dissolution of 'Silent Hills' and the accompanying removal of 'P.T.' as a tease of a game in development.
But with projects like 'Through the Woods' on the horizon, those glory days of games that could put the player edge with calculating subtlety are not forgotten.
Antagonist's 'Through the Woods' is having its Kickstarter now, (check it out here), but the game's demo is already proof that a simple manipulation of sight and sound in a game can still be freaky.
Coupled with some headphones, 'Through the Woods' uses an interesting ongoing dialog to tease players. The conversation that is overheard continually foreshadows that player's journey, which is that of a mother searching for her son is one heck of a creepy/Norwegian themed forest. Just aiming the flashlight and catching glimpses of awful specters here and there isn't enough.
That freaky 'Through the Woods' demo, can be found here.
