Gearbox continuing to make waves at PAX South.
For the third and final day of the first ever PAX South, Gearbox Software decided to play their ace in the hole. After two days filled with community events and panels built around a whole host of Gearbox titles ('Borderlands: The Handsome Jack Collection,' 'Tales from the Borderlands,' 'Battleborn,' etc.), the time to make good on all of those 'Homeworld' teasers finally arrived.
Remastered Gameplay
First things first. Gearbox has made public the first ever gameplay footage of the 'Homeworld Remastered Collection.' Naturally, with some of the original 'Homeworld' talent on-hand to help, the new animatics, soundtrack, and even the returning voice cast, appear to have set a high mark for what can be accomplished with a remastering. Even more impressive, the gameplay has been treated with that same painstaking attention to detail.
4K UHD
Gearbox started with the 'Homeworld 2' engine and the finished result is an ultra-high-definition presentation that can make the most out of today's most powerful PC rigs. (With multi-sampling enabled, the game can technically be rendered in 8K). The game's new texture detail has been tailored to fit an array of visual upgrades, and in the end, battles can be mesmerizingly beautiful.
Classic Versions are Bonus
The classic story and gameplay of 'Homeworld 1&2' have been made new again, but for those who pine for an unaltered experience, you're in luck. The 'Homeworld Remastered Collection' includes the original versions of 'Homeworld' and 'Homeworld 2.' While these are the vintage experience, the games have been updated to get along with modern operating systems.

Multiplayer Features Dream Matchups
The one thing that really couldn't simply be made modern PC friendly, however, was the original games' multiplayer, which was built on the now defunct GameSpy service. So while these classic versions of 'Homeworld' are so original they are ready for any number of fan favorite mods, Gearbox has a different idea in mind for multiplayer.
'The Homeworld Remastered Collection' will include access to the 'Homeworld Remastered' Steam Multiplayer Beta, which will launch alongside the game on February 25th. Gearbox has been rocking the multiplayer within the company for months, but when it goes public, the fine-tuning can really begin. Such fine-tuning may be necessary and that's because the multiplayer will support such crazy variations as Homeworld 1 vs Homeworld 2 multiplayer matches.
From Brian Martel, Chief Creative Officer at Gearbox Software, "Homeworld is among the greatest strategy games in history, and we're very proud of the work our team has put into bringing this exceptional series to modern PCs. We received a lot of great feedback from the passionate Homeworld fan community, and we hope to deliver a game they – and new fans from around the world – can get lost in for countless hours to come."
Date, Price, & Preorder Discount
While announcing a February 25th release date for 'The Homeworld Remastered Collection,' Gearbox and partner Balckbird Interactive remained mum on 'Homeworld Shipbreakers.' In something of a happy surprise, 'The Homeworld Remastered Collection' is being priced at $34.99, and those who pre-order from Steam can get the collection for $29.99 (15% off the launch price).
