Hello Games finally drops the details.
After a premature blip on the radar a few days ago, enigmatic space exploration title 'No Man's Sky' has settled into a firm release date. Hello Games finally confirmed during a press event that the game will drop on June 21st on PS4 and PC in North America, with the UK waiting just a couple more days for the 24th. In case there were any lingering doubts about the size and scale of this thing, the game will definitely be getting a retail release, and will be full priced at $59.99.
That same press event also comes with a whole slew of new details as to what typical gameplay looks like, and you should definitely have a look at Gamespot's coverage for a seriously in-depth look at what to expect, but an interview the site has posted with Hello Games' Sean Murray encapsulates it pretty well:
"...the short answer to your question is, the through-line in 'No Man's Sky' is your journey to the centre of the universe. But I think that's nonsense. Take 'Mario 64'. No way did I play that game to save the princess. I played to enjoy the game. I didn't even play to get the stars. I played that game start-to-finish four times, and there was no way I wanted to do that to get 120 stars. I was playing it because I was enjoying it."
Indeed, the detailed look at everything showcases a game that, if it succeeds, will provide nigh-infinite amounts of exploratory joy to everyone. We're definitely ready to lay hands on this one. Here's hoping.
