Former CEO David Helgason moving into a roving role.
One of the biggest engines in all of game development (mobile, PC, console, etc), Unity, is seeing some interesting times. Former CEO and company founder, David Helgason, has announced that as part of a series of "big moves at Unity,' he will be stepped down as CEO in favor of John Riccitiello. Riccitiello has been synonymous with since 1997, but stepped down last year. According to Helgason, Riccitiello was brought over to Unity last year and has served on the board working closely with Helgason.
Helgason describes Riccitiello as " the right person to help guide the company to the mission that we set out for ourselves over a decade ago: democratize game development!"
Helgason, meanwhile, we still "be heavily involved with the company’s direction," and will focus his "on finding the best ways to serve all of you amazing developers, all while working with some insanely talented people here at Unity."
It's worth noting that the last time that Riccitiello left EA, he returned with Pandemic and BioWare in tow.
