Meet the Surface Recon Vehicle.
'Elite: Dangerous' has been a sweeping success. (See why here.) Now begins the time when developer Frontier Developments asks players to enter into 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons,' which is a new season of gameplay expansions for 'Elite: Dangerous.'
Up first is the Planetary Landings expansion, which will let players land on planets and explore using the new Surface Recon Vehicle (the SRV or 'Scarab'), and find signals, crashed ships, structures, fortresses minerals and so on without hitting a load screen.
Starting today, Beta access for 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons' is available through the Frontier Developments store. (See here.) 'Horizons' is priced at $59.99 (or $44.99 for existing 'Elite: Dangerous' players) and includes the full season. 'Horizons' with Beta Access is priced at $74.99 ($59.99 for existing players).
Those who order in the next few hours can still secure the Black Ships for Black Friday: 29 free black paint jobs. (Beta access version here, regular version here.)
The second major piece of 'Horizons' is expected in early 2016, and this will include new looting and crafting systems.
Horizons' will also come to the Xbox One and Mac at some point. In addition to the loyalty discount, existing 'Elite: Dangerous' players get an exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship (which must be bought in-game.) New players will get the original base content included with 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons.'
Of course, as important as the 'Horizons' expansions are, the base game, 'Elite: Dangerous' will continue to get free updates, including the upcoming 'CQC' PVP content update.
