The immersive audio tech is coming to ScreenX panoramic theatres.
DTS and CJ 4DPLEX have announced a new partnership. As part of the deal, the companies will bring DTS:X immersive audio technology to ScreenX theatres around the world.
"DTS:X immersive audio technology complements CJ 4DPLEX's ScreenX immersive visual presentation, offering an amazing end-to-end product for exhibitors," said Bill Neighbors, SVP and general manager, Cinema, Home, Digital Media and Streaming Solutions, at Xperi. "Additionally, our global presence brings additional resources that will help grow our combined offering in 2019. I am confident that moviegoers will love the experience."
DTS:X is an object-based, scalable audio format that allows for the installation of expanded speaker configurations with overhead audio. Meanwhile, ScreenX theatres use a proprietary multi-projection system to extend movie scenes onto the side walls of a theatre, resulting in a panoramic, 270-degree view of the film. DTS:X tech will start being implemented into ScreenX locations this year.
"Our alliance with DTS will take ScreenX theatres to the next level of immersion," said JongRyul Kim, CEO of. "It's an exciting time for cinema and technology to blend and create new experiences for audience members and we look forward to expanding our partnership in the months to come."
ScreenX is currently available in 200 screens around the world, including 16 screens in the US, 87 screens in South Korea, 66 screens in China, 8 in England, 4 in Turkey, 4 in Japan, 3 in Switzerland, 2 in France, 2 in Vietnam, and 1 in Spain, Hungary, UAE, Kuwait, Thailand, Indonesia, Israel, and Canada.
