There has been a lot of good stuff announced for home video lately, with a surprising number of them being for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. We've got another wave of Hitchcock, some creepy cult classics, and much more. Physical media sure seems to be making a comeback!
First, let's take a quick glimpse into next year as Kino Cult is preparing to release of a bunch of cult classics on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray starting in January with Clive Barker's Underworld. They have also announced that they are preparing Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS, Ilsa: Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks, Ilsa the Tigress of Siberia, and Ilsa, the Wicked Warden for 4K as well, although no confirmed dates for those four releases. They will, however, have new HDR Dolby Vision masters. Definitely keep these out of reach of children.
And now back to 2023, Universal has set The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection Vol. 3 for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on October 31. The five included films: Rope, Topaz, Frenzy, Torn Curtain, and The Man Who Knew Too Much - will be sold separately as well.
Disney has announced the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection - a mega boxed collector's set containing 100 features on Blu-ray. The set will hit stores on November 14. You can read all about that in our previous coverage here. Apparently the set's MSRP is a whopping $1500 and it will only be available on Walmart.com. See the clip below. Additionally, they've also set the iconic animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 10 with a SteelBook only at Best Buy..
Warner Brothers will be bringing the first season of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman to Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 28. Digital will be available September 18.
Fans of the classic sports drama Rudy starring Sean Astin will be pleased to know that Sony is prepping the film for 4K UHD Blu-ray on November 14. The release will be a SteelBook and will include Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and a brand new Director's Cut of the movie!
Sony has more - Black Hawk Down & The Guns of Navarone will both be getting limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBooks on November 7. These two releases surprisingly also have a Dolby Vision upgrade.
Paramount Scares Vol. 1 is a limited edition 4K UHD Blu-ray boxed set of five horror films arriving just in time for Halloween on October 24. This set includes Rosemary's Baby (1968), Pet Sematary (1989), Crawl (2019), Smile (2022), and a mystery title. The deluxe collector's set will have various collector's items among them an issue of Fangoria produced exclusively for this release.
Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One starring Tom Cruise will land on 4K UHD Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook, and Blu-ray on October 31. Digital will hit on October 10.
The Academy Award winner Terms of Endearment is headed to 4K as part of the Paramount Presents limited edition series on November 23rd. Check out the full details here.
Scream Factory is giving the horror cult classic Night of the Demons a 4K Collector's Edition upgrade on October 3. The two sequels arrive on the same date, however only in Blu-ray Collector's Editions. Full details here.
And last but certainly not least, A24's independent horror smash hit Talk to Me from brothers Danny and Michael Philippou (of @RackaRacka YouTube channel) is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on October 3. Studiocanal UK has given a 4K restoration to Jim Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai starring Forest Whitaker and will release it on home video in the UK. You can pre-order the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Zavvi will have an exclusive 4K SteelBook.
