Puzzle platformer looks to help players understand imbalance.
'Coco's Cove' is a student-designed and made puzzle-platformer that is available now (with some new updates) on the Google Play store for $.99 (find it here). This seven student product comes from Bradley University, but more significantly, tasks players with keeping Coco balanced by way of grabbing the right food. The idea, it seems, is to help illustrate the effects of blood sugar imbalances in those with type 2 diabetes. This is done through Coco's type 2 diabetes highs and lows- "Coco gets hungry and sleepy when the wrong grub is grabbed." But with the player's help (and platforming skills), Coco can get around just fine and have lots of fun in the jungle.
From Dr. Monica McGill, Associate Professor and Game Design Lead, "We are excited to continue our innovative research into games for improving health. Games are a powerful medium, and Coco’s Cove is another tool created to help the nearly 30 million Americans who live with type 2 diabetes every day."
