More TV on HD DVD may be on the way from Warner Home Video, who have just released a teaser marketing advert trumpeting the release of top shows 'Smallville' and 'The West Wing' on the format.
The ad appeared as part of an unassuming promo flyer included in the recent release of 'Invasion: The Complete Series' on standard DVD. A full two-page spread features the cover art for both 'Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season" and "The West Wing: The Complete Seventh Season," as well as boasting about the format's crisp picture and sound, and interactive features.
Though Warner Home Video has yet to officially confirm or deny the release of either show on HD DVD, the standard DVD set of 'Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season' is due to hit stores on September 12, so we'll remain optimistic that a simultaneous release on both formats is quite possible.
The news also comes only days after HBO, via Warner, announced the HD DVD debut on November 7 of 'The Sopranos: Season Six, Part One.' That bodes well that the studio is serious in its commitment to release television programming on HD DVD, and that the marketing push for 'Smallville' and 'The West Wing' is only the beginning of what's to come.
We have added both 'Smallville' and 'The West Wing' to the "Pending Announcements" section of our HD DVD Release Calendar. Stay tuned for further details as soon as they are officially announced.
