Universal to Unleash Five New HD DVD Titles

On October 24, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will add five top
catalog titles to its growing HD DVD lineup, including the highly-anticipated
favorites '
12 Monkeys'
and the 1982 remake of '
The
Thing.'
Also among the studio's Halloween-timed announced are '
Out
of Sight,' a rescheduled '
The
Interpreter' (bumped from its original August 22 release date) and the Stanley
Kubrick classic '
Spartacus.'
Technical specs are impressive, too: in addition to the standard widescreen
transfers and 1080p video, Universal has produced new Dolby TrueHD soundtracks
for all of its October 24 releases except 'Spartacus,' which will be presented
in Dolby Digital 5.1 only.
All discs will include the same extras as on their current standard DVD counterparts,
including a wealth of commentaries, documentaries and other goodies. (Note that
'Spartacus,' however, will not include any of the extras found on the Criterion
DVD release of the film.)
Though none of the titles will include exclusive HD content per se, 'The Thing,' 'Out of Sight' and 'Spartacus' will all feature Universal's new "My Scenes" interactive bookmark function, allowing users to mark and store their favorites scenes for future access.
Universal has set a $28.95 list price for each release.
