The four-year-old game remains a platform exclusive while enhancing the prestige of PS Plus.
By now millions have played both 'Demon's Souls' and its multiplatform spiritual successor 'Dark Souls.' While millions wait with trepidation for 'Dark Souls II,' the game that initiated the sensation, 'Demon's Souls,' is now part of the Instant Game Collection on PlayStation Plus.
From its niche origin in the PS1 and PS2 series 'Kings Field,' 'Demon's Souls' provides a level of challenge and reward rarely seen in modern straightforward, cutscene and dialogue packed games. The nuanced and demanding combat systems, as well as the exemplary level design and truly grand boss fights are but some of awesome aspects that has to be experienced in order to be appreciated.
The PS3 exclusive title was rejected by Sony when the prospect of bringing the game to the United States was under consideration. Fortunately, Atlus stepped forward, but the stock shortages of the first two months of the game's release indicate that even Atlus was unaware of the game's potential for sensation.
So there is some irony in the fact that a game that Sony once saw not even worth bringin to the US is now a star in their Instant Game Collection. Although 'Demon's Souls' was released in 2009 and is currently available at a Greatest Hit price from Amazon, having this near peerless title included for PS Plus members old and new is still a notable fact.
PS Plus members personally unfamiliar with the title now have less of a reason not to investigate it for themselves.
A year of PlayStation Plus membership is currently $49.99 on Amazon. Membership benefits include the Instant Game Collection, PSN discounts, free game trials, exclusive beta access for some games, game save cloud back-ups, and the single membership extends to the PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.
